Fabric Recommendations:

This pattern can be made from most medium weight outwear fabrics. Wool tweed and other wool blend fabrics are the best choice as they have the required weight but also mould well around curves. Other outer fabric options include corduroy or denim (those with a little stretch will work best). A heavier linen could make a good summer hat choice if used with a decent weight interfacing.
Lining Fabric: Light woven fabric such as cotton poplin or quilting cotton
Brim/Peak: Craft plastic – the thicker the plastic the more sturdy your brim but the harder it is to sew through. 0.5mm is a good choice for beginners and smaller size hats. 0.8mm plastic is harder to work with but will create a sturdier hat and more professional finish. If you are unable to source craft plastic then plastic milk bottles are a great alternative! For the smallest sizes it is possible to use either craft foam or heavy interfacing for the brim. The finish won’t be quite so sharp, but your hat will be easier to sew and the hat will be softer to wear.
Interfacing: You need to apply fusible interfacing to all your outer pieces. If you are using a thick outer fabric then use a lighter interfacing, if you are using a slightly thinner fabric then use a medium weight interfacing. A soft interfacing will make sewing your hat easier. Even though you will be using a woven outer fabric, I find knit interfacing is often soft but with enough structure and works well.
