From Season 16 of Project Run & Play, we are happy to bring you Kat of Sew Chibi Designs Natsu Shorties pattern seen in her Signature Style Challenge.

Pattern Features:

The Natsu Shorties PDF Pattern is a relaxed fit, knee length, knit shorts pattern featuring contrast cuffs and drawstring waistband.  Perfect summer shorties for girls AND boys; for kids 12/18M all the way up to 16Y!

Fabric Recommendations:

MAIN FABRICS: Light to medium weight knit fabric with at least 40% stretch recovery: cotton or cotton blend jersey, knit interlock, sweater knit (see notes below*).

CONTRAST FABRICS: Ribbing, jersey with at least 75% stretch recovery.  If you are using a knit fabric with less stretch recover, ad about 1/2″ – 3/4″ to the pattern piece.  Do not use fabric with less than 25% stretch recovery.

*If you want to use a thicker fabric, size up a size, but keep in mind the desired length you want.

Notions:

For Shorts Construction:

・ballpoint/stretch size 80 needle
・ 1.5 – 2 yards (˜1.3-1.8 meters) twill tape, cording, or *sewn ties
・ 1 yard of 1.25” wide elastic (˜3.1cm) (sports elastic works best.)
・ scraps of lightweight interfacing for buttonholes
・ a bodkin for pulling elastic or safety pin

Optional Notions:

・ serger
・ coverstitch machine for hemming
・ walking foot if using a sewing machine
