Season 30

We are so excited to announce SEASON 30 of Project Run & Play! Can you believe we’re here already? This is a big one, and we have so many good things coming your way, we can’t wait to share. This post will announce our six designers (you’ll want to go follow them now, so you don’t miss their sneak peeks), the themes, the sewalong, and how it all works. Spoiler, your vote counts for deciding who gets to go through each round!

To give everyone a little more opportunity to show us their work, there will be no eliminations until the end of the second week. For the first two weeks of competition, the designers will all sew for the theme, and the top 4 scores will advance to the third round. After week 3, one more designer will be eliminated, and the top 3 scores will go into the final round. Our panel of judges and celebrity judges weigh in, as well as counting on the public vote to determine scores each week. One third of the score comes from the panel, the celebrity judge, and the vote, each.

Themes

Week 1: Checks and Gingham. Classic or whimsical, these playful and versatile prints make us think spring!
Week 2: All About Asymmetry. Elevate your look by using asymmetry to create a unique, fresh design!
Week 3: Rise to the Occasion. Recitals, spring holidays, weddings, and more…dress it up for a special occasion!
Week 4: Signature Style. Design a look that best represents your own unique style, taste, and sewing skills.

Sewalong

Don’t forget that YOU can sew with us too! Just choose any (or all) of the themes, use #prp30sewalong, and tag us! You can also share it in our Facebook group or send us an email (projectrunandplay at gmail dot com) to enter! Each person may enter up to four times (once for each week’s theme.) Only new sews made during the season are eligible. A winner will be chosen on 4/7/25 to receive a $150 gift certificate to Brightside Fabric Co!

Designers

Our designers are what makes the seasons so fun to watch. We know they’re going to sew up some amazing things this season! Give them a follow to show your support, and to see what they come up with for each of the themes!

E Lan Le

Hello, I’m E Lan (Emily Lan) from Southern California and am always gravitating toward the coastal beaches even though I have aversions to the sun and sand. I am a mother of 3 beautiful children; the youngest being my only girl and my muse. Sewing naturally came to me after her arrival since it became an urgent need to grace her bald head with bows. With an “I can make that” attitude, my sewing turned from simple accessories to creating full wardrobes. I am entirely grateful to be part of this competition and I am hopeful to be challenged not only as a seamstress but as an artist.

Amber of Smiley Sue Studio

I’m a homeschooling mom of six wonderful kids—three boys and three girls—who keep my days both busy and joyful. Originally from the picturesque landscapes of Utah, my husband and I have now planted roots in Northwest Missouri, where our family thrives on love and creativity. My passion for sewing runs deep, inspired by a long lineage of skilled sewists, but it was in the cozy confines of my 7th-grade home ec class that I truly fell in love with the craft. I made many quilts and a variety of projects over the years, but my passion for sewing children’s garments exploded with my discovery of pdf patterns over 7 years ago. When I’m not stitching up new projects, you can find me on the sidelines coaching my children’s basketball teams, cheering at theirsoccer games, or chauffeurung them to numerous dance classes—all in a day’s work for this multitasking mom!

Marci Peyton

I’m Marci, a PNW native, wife, and mom to an 8 year old girl, who is always on the go. I’m a hairdresser by day, and sewist by night. I love mindless sitcoms and trashy reality shows when I sew, so my mind can decompress from the day. I have been sewing for over 20 years, off and on. But like many others, got very into it during the pandemic, and haven’t stopped since! Now both my mine, and my daughter’s closets are filled with handmade clothes, and I have an overflowing fabric stash. I’m so happy to have found this online sewing world!

Angel Espaldon of Handcrafted by Rina Angela

Hi, I’m Angel Espaldon, and I’m beyond thrilled to be part of Season 30! My love for sewing started in childhood, inspired by my mom, who made the most beautiful dresses for me. I learn when I was in elementary and officially started my sewing journey in 2018. Sewing is my first love, there’s nothing more fulfilling than creating beautiful, handmade clothes for my family. I can’t wait to share this passion and creativity with all of you!

Laura of Laffey Ranch Boutique

Hi there! I’m Laura, and my life revolves around my three wonderful children and loving husband. My passion for sewing blossomed two years ago when I began making dresses for my daughter, and now I enjoy all aspects of it, especially crafting beautiful gowns. Alongside sewing, I’ve been a professional photographer for about 15 years, with a special fondness for capturing the tiniest, squishiest newborns. As a registered veterinary technician, my love for animals shines through, especially with horses. I enjoy showing hunter over fences and have recently ventured into three-day eventing with my young horse that I trained myself. My husband and I have started a little farmstead where we care for our horses, ponies, cows, pigs, goats, chickens, quail, cats, dogs, and our tiny hedgehog. With a can-do attitude and amazing support (another shout out to my husband!), I feel incredibly blessed to lead such a fulfilling life!

Marie of Majacan

Hello, I’m Marie, a French mom that choose Canada as her happy place. I’m a mom of 4 beautiful kids. I started sewing 10 years ago when I moved to my new home and I never stopped since. I enjoy sewing for my kids but I also love sewing for me. I’m really thankful to be able to join this contest and I’m happy to share my little Canadian makes with you.

Sponsors

We also want to give a big “thank you” to our sponsors! Each of these companies will be contributing to the prize packages for our designers. You can find amazing offerings at all their shops, so please check out one or two that are new to you and support them for their support of the sewing community!
